Our Story

 

We launched our company over 25 years ago after receiving our very first write-up in Food & Wine magazine.

Staci Wanichek (our CEO), and her mom, Cheryl, introduced Wine Away® to the world over 25 years ago. Read about how it all began…

“Originally, the product was designed to be an all-purpose cleaner and degreaser. However, at the same time we developed our fabulous cleaner, everyone else did as well… so we scrapped the product and gave it out to friends and family to use. After a few months, people kept telling us it worked “pretty well” on red wine (and pet accidents).  Knowing there was nothing on the market at that time to remove red wine stains, we decided to take it back to the lab and began testing different formulations.   After a few months of testing we finally created one we liked.  We gave the new product to our friends and family for feedback and the results were extremely positive, said Wanichek.”

The next month Wanichek, contacted the editor of Food & Wine magazine and he asked her to send him a bottle. The bottle sent had no label. Using a black Sharpie, she wrote her name and phone number on the outside of the bottle and sent it off to him to review (and crossed her fingers).

A week later, he called back and said they had “tested it in their test kitchen and that it worked great on white carpet and linens and that they were going to write about it in their next issue.”

Two weeks later they came up with the name Wine Away® and created the label. The label we have today is the original design, the only difference is the bottle.

Evergreen Labs is a Women-and-Family owned business. Staci Wanichek continues to lead the company’s team in developing their domestic and global strategies, and creating targeted public relations campaigns; and Cheryl is enjoying her retirement.
